Eight generations on the Duck River, and Katahdin sheep on the grass.

We're the Kennedy family, and for over 210 years we've called Kettle Mills Farm home — 870 acres in Maury County, where our sheep graze year round.

A mill, a dam, and two hundred years of family.

The Kettle Mills Farm began in 1810 when Richard “Kettle Dick” Anderson purchased 2,000 acres in Hampshire along the Duck River. In 1882, his grandson, Richard Anderson Kennedy, built a dam and mill on the river, creating a bustling community with stores and a post office. The mill operated until 1956.

Today it's Sam Kennedy III, his wife Rachel, and their three children, Margaret, Sam IV and Ridley, who live and work here. After serving in the U.S. Navy and Naval Reserve, Sam returned in 2010 to preserve the family's heritage. “If you give to the land, it will give back to you.”

Delk and Mary Susan Kennedy brought home their first five Katahdin ewes in the fall of 2005. Today the sheep are the farm's centerpiece — maternal ewes that graze year round, lamb on pasture and need no shearing.
